Rocking Out

Part rock ’n’ roll, part fine furniture, the new Embassy Wing Chair is a collaboration between the fashion designer Logan Riese and the Los Angeles–based furnishings company Phyllis Morris, in honor of the latter’s 60th anniversary. The one-of-a-kind, hand-carved piece, which is priced at $14,850, features embossed leather upholstery with leather appliqués and 22-karat gold leaf. “Logan’s leatherwork is all done by hand, as is our furniture, so by essentially dressing our chair in his ornate leatherwork, we ha…

2014 Rolls-Royce Wraith: A More Spirited Ecstasy

Stately is a word usually associated with Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, but in the case of the new Wraith, another S word—stunning—seems far more appropriate. Based on a shortened Ghost platform, the Wraith’s fastback styling and striking two-tone paint scheme make it the sportiest Rolls-Royce in recent memory.
“The purposeful fastback profile is Wraith’s defining element,” says Giles Taylor, the design director for Rolls-Royce. “Inherent in this graceful line that sweeps from the top of the screen to the very rear…

Two World-Class Driving Experiences on the East Coast

One of the challenges of owning a high-performance vehicle is finding places that allow you to test the car’s limits on the road. Racetracks offer safe environments where you can open the throttle all the way. Here are two of our favorites.
Lime Rock Park Drivers Club “It might be the thought of driving the same track that has challenged so many legendary drivers over the years, or the sheer beauty of the place, but for me it’s the speed turns,” says Lime Rock’s director, Simon Kirby. Opened in 1956, the Conn…

Racing or Flying, CXC Offers a Professional-Grade Experience

Let’s get this straight: The CXC Motion Pro II is not some video game on steroids. Rather, this full-motion simulator was built specifically as a trainer for professional racers, according to Chris Considine, who founded CXC Simulations in 2007 to develop a machine that would accurately re-create the forces felt in the cockpit of a racing car. (He is the son of the actor, auto journalist, and racer Tim Considine.) Just under 100 CXC simulators have been sold, and the system has been embraced by the pros; no fe…
